The advantages of choosing porcelain tiles

Porcelain tiles

Ceramic tiles since many years have been a popular choice among home owners looking to redecorate their house. One reason for ceramic tiles being so popular is the large number of colours they are available in. You can easily find something to complement the colours of your walls or furniture. Other reasons for their popularity include affordability and the fact that they have a really long life.

Porcelain tiles are a type of ceramic tiles and have become really popular in the past few years. Porcelain tiles have a number of advantages over the conventional ceramic tiles and they also have a few disadvantages as well. Knowing about the advantages and disadvantages is important in order to take a sound decision. Here are some of the features of porcelain tiles that would help you make a better choice:

  • Durability: Porcelain tiles are perhaps the most durable tiles available in the market today. These tiles are manufactured using refined clay and at significantly higher temperatures as compared to ceramic tiles. Porcelain tiles as a result of the different manufacturing methods are much denser as compared to standard ceramic tiles. If these tiles are installed properly and in the right area, they can easily last a lifetime.
  • Moisture: Porcelain tiles are less prone to effects of moisture. When a tile absorbs moisture, it can easily crack. The problem is more serious in cold or freezing climates where the moisture levels are high. Porcelain tiles are much denser as compared to ceramic tiles and hence do not absorb as much moisture as conventional ceramic tiles.
  • Cleaning: Porcelain tiles are non-porous and hence are really easy to maintain. Since these tiles are non-porous, they also do not harbour any bacteria. This feature also makes them much more resistant to staining. This also makes porcelain tiles suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.
  • Density: It has been previously stated the advantages that the high density of porcelain tiles brings. However, higher density means that porcelain tiles are much more difficult to cut, which makes the installation rather difficult. You would not have to worry about this if you choose highly skilled labour for the installation.
  • Weight: Porcelain tiles are very heavy because of the high density. This makes their transportation difficult. If you accidently drop one of these tiles, they would surely break. While installing porcelain tiles, you would also have to make sure that the floor is strong enough to support the weight of these tiles.

Porcelain tiles are available in a large number of patterns and colours, are highly durable, resistant to staining and easy to clean. All these advantages make porcelain tiles the material of choice for home redecorations. Porcelain tiles have started gaining popularity in the last few years as the people are getting more cautious about the durability of their flooring and the fact that they want to ensure long life accompanied with affordability.
